A common human trait; why do today what we can put off til tomorrow. We all fall victim to this from time to time. Sometimes we pay the price in a big way. Like with household repairs. If we maintained our homes on a regular basis, the overall costs of owning the home decreases. It’s when we decide to put of that maintenance and let those items grow into massive repairs when we really pay the price. A small hole in the roof tile that has a small leak doesn’t seem like much, but when we let it go unnoticed, it grows and grows until it caves in and causes major structural damage running into the tens of thousands of dollars in repairs. All it would have taken is a few pennies worth of roof tar and elbow grease and you would have saved yourself the pain in the wallet. That is just one example. Here are some other innocuous items that can grow into major repair projects.
- Peeling or degraded exterior paint. This can cause damage to the siding and if you have ever priced out siding for a whole home, you know how important this is!
- Flickering light fixtures. Can be a symptom of something much more serious or just a faulty fixture, Check into it before it turns into a fire.
- Speaking of fire, where do you think 15,000+ of home fires start per year? Dryer vents. No kidding. You have to keep them clean and clear.
Nip all these items in the bud before they blossom into major weeds that sap your savings! Happy homeownership!
