I was talking with a friend today, and he told me that his mother has her house on the market in another State, her listing broker told her to take down all of her family photos. No big deal, I actually ask that of sellers as well. The problem was the context that the broker used. She said that the pictures show her age and that an older couple lives there and that might turn a young family off. WOW! That sounds like agism to me! as well as familial discrimination!
I explained the reason that I would ask a seller to remove personal photos is that buyers like to picture themselves and their own lives in the house and photos of other people distract from the ability to imagine that scenario. And it certainly has nothing to do with “aging” a home!
Nobody is perfect and I am sure that the comment was not meant to harm, but it concerns me that there are brokers talking in such a way. Truly, it is important to find a broker that has a grasp of the concept of decent public decorum!
I know a good one! I don’t want to toot my own horn, but, BEEP, BEEP! Check me out!
